Cyprus weather: 39C inland heat with isolated mountain showers
Elena Georgiou — 2026-09-14
Inland areas of Cyprus are set for a hot and mostly clear day, with the temperature climbing to about 39 degrees Celsius and isolated showers possible over the mountains after midday, the Department of Meteorology reported.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 32C on western and southwestern coasts, 35C elsewhere along the shore, and 30C across the tallest peaks. Cloud cover may increase locally at times.
Wind and sea
Winds are forecast to start light and variable at 3 Beaufort, then gradually shift to a southwesterly-to-northwesterly breeze of 3 to 4 Beaufort. On southern coasts, gusts could briefly strengthen to 4 or 5 Beaufort in the afternoon. Seas should remain no more than slightly rough.
Overnight
Overnight, skies should stay mostly clear, though low cloud may temporarily settle over coastal spots. Later, thin fog or mist could appear locally, mainly inland and in eastern areas. Winds will turn downslope, vary locally, and ease to a light 3 Beaufort. Sea conditions are unlikely to exceed slightly rough. Forecast overnight lows are 23C inland, 25C near the shore, and 20C across the highest peaks.
Three-day outlook
From Wednesday to Friday, clear skies are forecast to dominate over nearly the whole island, broken only by occasional localised cloud. A few showers, or possibly a thunderstorm, could develop over the mountains after noon. Through Thursday, temperatures are set to remain at current levels and stay above normal for the season. A modest fall is expected on Friday, taking values to around or slightly above the seasonal average.
