Nicosia Opens Public Consultation on New City Centre Local Plan

Residents Invited to Shape Nicosia's Next Local Plan

Nicosia municipality is calling on residents across four districts to help shape the city's forthcoming local plan, opening a public consultation ahead of a meeting scheduled for 4 September at 6pm at the "Melina Mercouri" Cultural Centre on L. Athinas and V. Georgiou II' streets.

Four Municipal Districts Covered

The plan under preparation applies to the municipal districts of Nicosia, Aglandjia, Engomi and Ayios Dhometios, setting out how the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods will develop going forward. Municipal officials said the goal of the gathering is "to inform the public about the process of preparing the new local plan of Nicosia, as well as to record their views, positions and suggestions."

What the Meeting Will Cover

The programme is built around a presentation explaining how the plan is being drafted, followed by open discussion in which attendees can raise questions, share opinions and put forward suggestions directly to municipal planners.

Municipality Stresses Value of Public Input

Organisers framed resident participation as central to the outcome, noting: "Your participation and active contribution to the consultation process is particularly important, as your views and suggestions will contribute to the formation of the new Nicosia local plan." The consultation adds Nicosia to a wider pattern of Cypriot municipalities revisiting local plans as urban areas grow and land-use pressures shift.
